Great Barrington, MA — The Monument Mountain Regional High School Building Committee has voted to advance the project into its next phase, approving submission of the Design Development documents to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) at its April 30, 2026 meeting.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in the MSBA process, as the project continues to progress from Schematic Design into Detailed Design and documentation.
The Design Development submission includes comprehensive architectural and engineering drawings, updated project specifications, and a refined cost estimate. The School Building Committee is pleased to report that the Design Development estimate is on budget, meaning the design aligns with the approved project budget of $152 million.
“The Design Development phase is a critical checkpoint in the process,” said Jason St. Peter, SBC Chair. “Reaching this milestone on budget reflects the strong collaboration between the District, School Building Committee, and project team, and positions the project well as we move into the next phase.”
Following review by the MSBA, the project will advance into the Construction Documents phase, where final drawings and specifications will be completed. The project is anticipated to bid in Spring 2027 in accordance with Massachusetts public procurement requirements under Chapter 149, with construction expected to begin in Summer 2027. The new school is currently scheduled to open for the 2029–2030 academic year.
The Monument Mountain Regional High School Building Project is being developed in partnership with the MSBA to support the district’s educational program and provide updated facilities for students and the broader school community. The MSBA is expected to provide a base reimbursement of approximately $59 million, with total reimbursement potentially reaching up to $61 million. The local share is capped at $89 million. An additional $1.6 million in incentives is anticipated through Mass Save.
This milestone reflects a strong, collaborative effort to deliver a project that is fiscally responsible, educationally aligned, and designed to serve the region for generations. The proposed school will provide modern, flexible learning environments, expanded career and technical education opportunities, and a safe, sustainable facility that supports both students and the broader community.
The project—designed by DiNisco Design, Inc. in collaboration with William Rawn Associates, Architects, Inc. and managed by Skanska USA Building, Inc. as Owner’s Project Manager—reflects a collaborative effort to deliver a future-ready school that will serve the region for generations.
